Indian Springs State Park - Flovilla, Georgia

We discovered Indian Springs by accident per say and absolute love the Park.  It is known for being one of the oldest state parks in the nation.  It is our second most favorite State Park (Vogel being the best) because you get the feeling of being in the mountains yet we are only 1 hour away from the house.  The campground hosts, Frank and Linda, set the bar for campground hosts as far as we were concerned.  I can honestly say that we have not found a better couple at any of the state parks yet.  They are hard workers and will do anything to make your stay an enjoyable one.  I could go on and on about them but this is supposed to be a review about the State Park.  (UPDATE - April 2008...Frank and Linda have since retired for medical reasons but the new host has carried on their tradition of doing a great job!  I know the Park Rangers appreciate it as well as the campers.)  There are 88 campsites in two loops.  Each site has a fair amount of tree cover.  Though I have heard they have cleared some trees in the last year when they redid some of the sites to replace the border timbers and level the pads. (UPDATE - April 08...They have redone the majority of the sites and they are wonderful.  Still not quite perfectly level but very easy to get into and out of.  The comfort station has been completely torn down and a newer larger facility is in its place!)  Each site is fairly accessible by any size RV but I believe one loop has a small turnaround area so if you have a long rig you may have trouble. (UPDATE - April 2008...Each turn around in both branches have been redone and paved to allow for larger RVs to turn around.  A welcome discovery!)  The lake is a nice sized lake for fishing and you can bring your own boat...be advised that there is a 10 hp motor limit on the lake.  The DNR rep is tough but fair...just obey the laws and you won't have any trouble.  The camping loops are quite the distance from the park office and day use area so you won't have to worry about unauthorized visitors to your area.  Wildlife is abundant in the area as well.  I remember during the fall one year, I was on a midnight nature call to the comfort station and was scared out of my wits when I came across 3 deer in the middle of road just staring at me snorting!  It was deer season then and I think they knew they were safe on State Park property.  We highly recommend a stay at Indian Springs and you must try the natural spring water at the fountain...a couple of hints though...hold your nose or let the container settle for a couple of hours.  Our daughter loves it and there is a limit per day on how much you can bottle.  According to legend, the water holds medicinal properties...if you can get past the sulfur smell.
